Paul Rousset was the president of our association Image In until 2010, and sadly passed away in 2025. Together with his friend André Abet and the town of Cabestany, he took part in creating the Rencontres du court-métrage, whose reins he took over in 1999, helping the Meetings bring together more and more French and international filmmakers.
Since his passing, we have received hundreds of messages from filmmakers expressing the affection they held for Paul. Among all these messages, the one from Cyril Delon, a member of Image In, seemed to us to perfectly capture our emotion.
Paul Rousset has left us… He was a great man, kind and very generous, with a sparkling and mischievous look; often funny, cultured and always warm…
His loss overwhelms us, we loved him dearly, we loved him like a father. He was one of the first to believe in us and defend our films when we were starting out… Thanks to him we won our first awards, he gave us confidence in our work, advised us, inspired us…
In 2010, together with Florent Pallares, he invited us to join the team of the Rencontres du Court-Métrage “Image In Cabestany” and to carry the torch of this wonderful cultural event! Two generations thus joined forces under his impulse…
The people we have become today owe him a great deal. He was one of our mentors and an example to follow.
We have so many wonderful memories with him: moments spent talking about cinema, hours of editing at his apartment by the windmill; pre-selection sessions to the fits of laughter at our meetings, with his habit of dipping cat’s-tongue biscuits into his glasses of cider.
His spirit and his work will continue to accompany us. The “Vidéo-Bar” evenings and the Rencontres du court-métrage are his legacy. Let’s try not to be too sad to have lost him, but happy to have known him…
